Some Real-Life Examples of my Work

Accelerating a
Leadership Team

The Director of one of Spotify’s Studios decided to consolidate the different leadership forums in her organization. I helped her and her leads better understand the needs of the org and identify gaps in the current structure. As a result, she decided to terminate one of the forums, turn another one into an async status update and redesign the core leads team with the purpose of making it every member’s “First Team”. Through training, coaching and light facilitation, I helped the group become a real team and increase their effectiveness significantly - 9 out of 12 indicators went from poor or mediocre to superb, measured by the Team Diagnostics Survey.

Setting a New Division up for Success

After a period of rapid growth, Jimdo restructured parts of the organization and introduced new roles. I worked with the freshly baked Head of Global Customer Support to craft a compelling purpose for the new division and to clarify her and her leads’ roles and responsibilities. Through coaching she realized the first step was to create a mission statement collaboratively with a cross-functional group of leaders. We prepared and ran a series of 1:1 interviews as well as bigger workshops, and the group came up with a statement everyone could align on.
As a second step, we ran mini workshops with the CEO to clarify his expectations on her responsibilities.

Creating a Baseline for Agile Ways of Working

In one of Spotify’s areas we realized that, although everyone agreed we worked in an Agile way, teams and individuals had different ideas of what exactly that meant. In addition, we didn’t have a shared understanding of technical terms like Sprint or User Story. This lead to frustration and made it hard for the teams to improve their ways of working. We decided to launch a training program, in order to establish an Agile baseline. I ran a Scrum Basics training for every team, including their most important business stakeholders. Each training session was followed up by a workshop where the team reflected on the content and decided, if or how they wanted to change their ways of working according to their insights.

Leadership Training for Managers and ICs

In one of Spotify’s Studios, the leads were lacking alignment on good leadership, since all of them had different backgrounds and had previously worked in different companies. After gathering input from different leads, I designed a training program for two different cohorts, covering the topics self management, influencing others, difficult conversations and decision making. The group agreed that we had achieved our learning objective: Create alignment on good leadership and establish a shared vocabulary. We later ran a modified version of this program with Spotify’s most senior engineers (Senior Staff and Principal), who were also lacking alignment on good leadership.
